Cooking classes offered in new East Campus rec

Campus Recreation will offer several new cooking classes at its new demonstration kitchen in the Rec and Wellness Center on East Campus.

Campus Recreation will offer several new cooking classes at its new demonstration kitchen in the Rec and Wellness Center on East Campus.

All cooking classes are 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are $25 for UNL students, Campus Rec members and the general public. Each class includes a cooking coach, food and materials.

Topics include the following:

International cooking

Held the second Tuesday of each month. Dates include Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8. Future classes will explore regions from Europe to South America and everywhere in between, with cooking techniques and dishes from each featured country.

Meatless Monday

Held the second Monday of each month. Dates include Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. Learn how to cook hearty and delicious meatless meals using techniques that incorporate all five MyPlate food groups. If a participant is a meat eater or a vegetarian, all attendees will enjoy the easy-to-create meals.

Specialty Cooking

Held the third Thursday of each month. Dates include Sept. 17, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19. The Sept. 17 class will feature game-day cooking. Learn how to create traditional game-day foods with a healthy twist. Dishes will pack in all the flavor with far less calories and fat. Future classes include easy crock pot meals, couples night, eating clean and farm to fork.

Meaty Mondays

Held the fourth Monday of each month. Dates include Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Nov. 23. These classes teach techniques to prepare healthy meals that include a variety of different meats including beef, pork, chicken and much more. It is sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Council.
