Girls Scouts from Lefler and Dawes Middle Schools visited east campus during their spring break to learn about careers working with animals.

The group had a chance to meet with Veterinary Science, Animal Science, and the School of Natural Resources where Fisheries and Wildlife senior Brooke Welsh-Appleby spoke about research with animals including salamanders, turtles, and snakes. Welsh-Appleby brought in her ball python to give the Girl Scouts an opportunity to touch one of the animals.

Amanda Bergeron-Bauer commented that, “it’s always fun to see groups come in and learn about herpetology. There’s always at least one student who is terrified of the snakes in the beginning but by the end that same student can’t stop petting them.”

In addition to learning about herpetology the Girl Scouts heard about careers with wildlife and in natural resources.
