UNL's Diocles Laboratory has been identified to play a role in the new $84 million defense contract with U.S. Strategic Command. An Oct. 17 forum will offer information on how UNL faculty can become involved with the new partnership.

A faculty forum on the University-Affiliated Research Center created through a partnership with the United States Strategic Command is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, room 212 (Unity Room). The event is open to all UNL faculty. For more information or to register, go to http://go.unl.edu/6gp.

Lunch will be provided. Presenters include Prem Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development; Robert Hinson, founding executive director of NU's National Strategic Research Institute; and Mark Warburton, UNL's director of defense initiatives.

Faculty participating in the forum will learn more about the UARC, be able to ask questions and explore how they can become involved.

The University of Nebraska and StratCom announced last week an initial defense research contract worth up to $84 millions over the next five years. The UARC is a universitywide initiative that draws on the broad range of expertise from all four NU campuses. Faculty will have the opportunity to participate if their research aligns with federal funding opportunities.
