Homecoming culminates in game with Jackrabbits

Homecoming week at UNL comes to a close this weekend with an annual parade, Football Friday, crowning of royalty and the football game with South Dakota State University. The homecoming theme is "2010: A Husker Odyssey."

Today, lawn displays will be judged by Greek Affairs at noon. The displays should be completed by 10:30 a.m.

Football Friday, organized by the Nebraska Alumni Association at the Wick Alumni Center, is 4:30 to 6 p.m. The event includes talks by former Huskers Tommie Frazier and Matt Davison. Admission is free. Kids game and door prizes will be offered.

The homecoming parade, which starts at 16th and Vine and will travel west on R Street, between 16th and 12th streets, is 6 to 7 p.m. The parade is followed by the "Homecoming Jester" competition, 7 p.m. at the Wick Alumni Center. The contest will be judged by Frazier, Danny Noonan, Jenn Gilmore and 2009 royalty Rob Tualauleli and Beth Butler.

Other events today include introduction of the homecoming royalty candidates and a performance by the Husker Spirit Squad, both at the Wick following the Jester competition.

The 2010 homecoming festivities close with the Nebraska/South Dakota State University football game at 6 p.m., Sept. 25 at Memorial Stadium. Royalty will be crowned at halftime.
