Global Immersion Spotlight: Spring Break Programs

Guyana and Togo
Guyana and Togo

Interested in a Spring Break experience of a lifetime? This year two incredible programs will take place in Guyana, in South America, and Togo, in Western Africa.

Togo is a small country with bountiful potential for tourism expansion and agricultural innovation. This spring break, Dr. Osiri will be leading a group of students on a multi-disciplinary project to western Africa. The group will be comprised of two teams, one team focusing on developing a tourism plan for the capital city of Lome, while the other team travels north to develop a crop management strategy and work to build a solar powered center pivot for irrigation. An additional stipend is provided for the cost of this program. Students will earn 3 credits in BSAD 491. Application deadline is October 6th. Apply at http://go.unl.edu/togoapp

Guyana is known as the best kept secret in South America. Located along the northern coast, the country is rich in biodiversity from its rain forests and natural wonders. During Spring Break, Professor Ramsay will lead a group of students to Guyana to present to government officials of the plan they’ve developed for sustainable eco-tourism. In its second year, the Guyana program will expand to look at the impact the mining industry has on the country and what steps it could make to sustainably mine while preserving the environment. Students will earn 3 credits in BSAD 491. Application deadline is October 6th. Apply at http://go.unl.edu/guyanaapp
