UNL Information Technology Services expects network congestion and intermittent slowdowns due to the release of Apple's new operating system, iOS8, on Sept. 17. Both wired and wireless users will be affected by heavier than normal network loads.

In addition, the release may slow UNL wired and wireless network applications, particularly those that have a dependency on the Internet for information.

A UNL social media event, #UNL24, is also scheduled for the same day.

“We have made improvements to our network since the last major Apple release,” said Jim Hlava, network manager. “We now have direct lines to Apple through Internet2 and can handle greater capacity than before. These releases have become very popular but are also the type of event that tests the limits of most major networks. We are cautiously optimistic that we are in a better position, but we still expect to feel an impact.”
