In an effort to increase security of the UNL network and user credentials,  UNL will change the required communication protocols to connect to UNL's Active Directory, effective October 20th, 2014. Following the change, all machines sending usernames and passwords must use an approved secure communication protocol.  UNL is discontinuing use of NTLMv1—an unsupported protocol that transmits authentication credentials using deprecated encryption methods that can be intercepted and read by unauthorized individuals.

Since January, UNL Information Technology Services has been assisting college and department technical staff efforts to remediate departmental computers and printers that were connecting via this insecure protocol and convert them to a secure method.
