Department and college awards were announced during the past week, along with plenty of awards from outside sources. Please join us in recognizing all of our award winners!
Department Award Winners
Negin Kananizadeh earned the 2017 Department of Civil Engineering Outstanding Dissertation Award. Negin is a May 2017 graduate of our CIVE PhD program, specializing in Water Resources Engineering. Her dissertation will be forwarded to the University to compete for the University level award.
Simin Akbariyeh and Bernard A. Frankl earned 2017 Department of Civil Engineering Outstanding Dissertation Award Honorable Mentions. Simin is a May 2017 graduate of our CIVE PhD program, specializing in Water Resources Engineering. Bernard is an August 2017 graduate of our CIVE PhD program, specializing in structure engineering.
College Award Winners
Dr. Libby Jones earned the Holling Family Distinguished Engineering Educator Award and the UNO Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Yong-Rak Kim earned the Holling Family Master Teacher Award/UNL University‐Wide Teaching Award.
Dr. Chungwook Sim earned the Henry Y. Kleinkauf Family Distinguished New Faculty Teaching Award.
Ashley West earned a College Staff Award for Exemplary Service and Support.
These individuals will be honored at a special luncheon on Thursday, April 5, 2018 on the City Campus, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Wick Alumni Center.
Other award winners
The UNO ASCE student group earned a Letter of Honorable Mention from the national ASCE organization. This honor recognizes the top third of all ASCE student groups.
Huiyuan Liu, a PhD student specializing in transportation systems engineering, was named a 2018 Lifesavers Traffic Safety Scholar. One of only 50 college students selected, Liu will attend the 37th annual National Lifesavers Conference on Highway Safety Priorities, April 22-24 in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Tian Zhang has been named ASCE 2017 Outstanding Reviewer for his work on the Journal of Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste.
Dr. Yong-Rak Kim earned a College Distinguished Teaching Award from the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor.
Dr. John Stansbury earned the Olsson Associates Engineering Faculty Excellence Award.
