The New Normal: A Brain After Concussion

The Oct. 23 Nebraska Lecture, “The New Normal: A Brain After Concussion,” will address concussion’s sometimes lifelong effects on cognitive, emotional and behavioral functions. Brain imaging expert Dennis Molfese, director of UNL’s Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, known as CB3, will discuss the center’s research to understand how the brain processes information before and after concussion. This work could lead to better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat concussions. Molfese also will outline how a unique collaboration between CB3 and the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory enables UNL researchers to gather and share data on student-athletes’ behavior and performance. This work could benefit broader society as well as athletes.
