This is, firstly, a spot for noting and examining appearances by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the news.

But it’s also, on occasion, a place to discuss how those appearances were made possible, a venue to provide sources and resources off the news for journalists, and an area to tout the university’s unique research and programming and a center for discussion of the changing media landscape. If we can show UNL’s role in serving new, varied, modern media platforms, that’s a bonus.

I’m Steve Smith, national news editor in UNL’s Office of University Communications, and I’ll be your guide to the stories behind the headlines that touch on the university.
