A new student award, the Roy and Catherine Yaley Student Leadership Award, will be given to Student Alumni Association president Dan England. The award is presented by the Nebraska Alumni Association.
England, an international business major from Kearney, also has served as social and public relations chair of SAA and is helping develop an online student/alumni mentoring program. A member of Farmhouse fraternity, England was the fraternity's 2003 rush chair and was named 2004 Greek Week's "Greek god of kindness." He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the official university ring committee and is an intern at Smith Hayes Financial Services.
The Roy and Catherine Yaley Student Leadership Award is named in honor of a former alumni association president and his wife. It is given to a student who has made a significant contribution of his or her time, talent and leadership to one of the association's student programs or has done volunteer work at the association. Yaley, a banker and 1953 graduate who died in 2001, was president of the alumni board of directors from 1984-86 and received the association's Distinguished Service Award in 1990. Catherine Elliott Yaley, of Sioux City, Iowa, is a 1950 graduate.
The award will be presented during the All-University Celebration and Salute to Alumni Achievement at the Nebraska Champions Club May 7.
