Winter Escape musical celebrations Dec. 5-6 at Sheldon Museum of Art

Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate Winter Escape, two fun-filled days of entertainment and art Dec. 5 and 6. The Sheldon's Great Hall will be full of music and activities, as well as stunning winter decor.
The University Chamber Singers will perform at the First Friday Reception Dec. 5. This ensemble is made up of 20 to 24 vocalists from the UNL School of Music (the Chamber Singers will also perform at Sheldon 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7). From 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 6, the String Beans will delight children with their lively, educational tunes. The Suzuki Strings, composed of children playing violins and violas, will follow.
These events are free and open to all. Events and activities include:
Friday, December 5
* 5-7 p.m. -- First Friday Reception, appetizers and cash bar
* 5-7 p.m. -- The University Chamber Singers perform in the Great Hall
Saturday, December 6
* 1-4 p.m. -- Refreshments, art-making stations
* 1 p.m. -- The String Beans perform in the auditorium
* 2:45 p.m. -- The Suzuki Strings fill the auditorium with music
This celebration is made possible by the Sheldon Art Association, the museum's dedicated support group. Sheldon Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects focusing on American art. The museum, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information or to arrange a tour, call (402) 472-2461.
