'Floral Fusion' fundraiser opens with preview party March 12 at Sheldon

The Sheldon Art Association will present "Floral Fusion," an exhibition and fundraising weekend featuring floral sculpture. The three-day event at the Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus, opens on March 12 with a preview party from 6 until 9 p.m.

Premier regional florists from Texas through North Dakota will create one-of-a-kind floral installations designed for Sheldon's Great Hall. The floral installations will be on view throughout the weekend and florists from the American Institute of Floral Designers will provide floral demonstrations over the course of the weekend. These AIFD florists are: Steve Barton, Conrad Quijas, Damon Samuel and Kevin Smith.

"Floral Fusion" events are:

Thursday, March 12, 6-9 p.m. -- Preview party presents floral sculpture, design and installation pieces in the Sheldon's Great Hall. A fusion band will entertain guests enjoying hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. At the end of the evening there will be a live auction. Tickets to this fundraising party are $125 per person.

Friday, March 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. -- "Taking Flowers to the Next Level," a floral demonstration and luncheon. Three of Nebraska's innovative floral designers will demonstrate how to make distinctive and memorable arrangements. Gourmet box lunches will be served. Ticket price is $40.

Sunday, March 15, 1-3 p.m. -- "A Journey with Flowers," a floral demonstration followed by tea and cookies. Innovative floral designers will demonstrate their methods and afterward they will enjoy refreshments and talk with individuals in the audience. Ticket price is $20.
