Lincoln, Neb., August 20th, 2009 —

For the sixth straight year, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is among the Top 50 public national universities in U.S. News and World Report's yearly evaluation of America's Best Colleges. UNL also landed in the top 100 of all national universities, public or private, according to the publication's annual rankings.

UNL is tied with four others at 43rd on the list of Top 50 public universities, meaning it is among the top one-fourth of all public universities. UNL also is ranked near the top third of all public or private national universities, tied with five others at 96th.

In each U.S. News category, data of up to 15 indicators of academic quality are gathered from each school and calculated according to the magazine's methodology. Among them are peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance.

Last year, UNL was tied for 89th among all national universities and 40th among public universities. Because it is common for U.S. News to have several schools share a numerical ranking, UNL's 2010 rankings reflect little change from its 2009 rankings. In the last six years, UNL has climbed from 107th in the national universities rankings and from 57th in the public universities charts.

The 2010 rankings were released at midnight EDT today.
