Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present "Agents of Change: Mexican Muralists and New Deal Artists," an exhibition that illustrates the close ties between the art of Mexico and the United States in the 1930s and 1940s, Sept. 29 through Jan. 17. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held during Sheldon's First Friday 5-7 p.m. Oct. 2.

From Sheldon's permanent collection and from the private collection of Norman and Judy Zlotsky, the exhibition presents artworks from the Mexican Muralist Movement, which began as a government-sponsored public art program after the Mexican Revolution of 1910, and from artists working in the Works Progress Administration, created during the Depression in the United States in the 1930s.

Artists whose works are represented in the exhibition include: Elizabeth Olds, Mabel Dwight, Howard Cook, Ben Shahn, Jean Charlot, Diego Rivera, Jose Orozco and David Siqueiros.

Sharon Kennedy, curator of cultural and civic engagement, will lead a Sheldon Sunday discussion about the exhibition 2-3 p.m. Nov. 15. Programming also includes Sheldon's Dia de los Muertos celebration with a Masquerade Ball Oct. 29 and Family Day activities Oct. 31.

The exhibition and all events, except for the Masquerade Ball, which requires an admission ticket, are free and open to the public.

Support for "Agents of Change" comes from the Nebraska Arts Council and Sheldon Art Association.

Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday.
