Latin Grammy-winners Pablo Ziegler and Nestor Torres will blend sizzling classic tango rhythms with cool jazz with a performance of Pablo Ziegler's Quartet for New Tango at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Creator of "the most successful blend of modern jazz and tango I've ever yet heard," according to Audiophile Audition, pianist Ziegler takes audiences on an incredible journey with his genre-blending music.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ziegler began performing classical repertoire at a young age, but fell in love with jazz in the 1960s. Soon after, he formed the Pablo Ziegler Trio, through which he arranged and performed jazz arrangements of classical music. In 1978, he played as the primary pianist of the New Tango Quintet, headed by Astor Piazzolla, who revolutionized tango music by introducing nuevo tango.

In 1990, Ziegler formed his own ensemble, Quartet for New Tango, blending classic tango rhythms and jazz improvisations, a never-before-seen combination in the music world. He went on to tour around the world and won a Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album in 2005 with his collaborative album, "Bajo Cero," with Quique Senisi and Walter Castro.

Puerto Rico native Nestor Torres is an accomplished jazz flutist who has toured the world, performing with the likes of Ricky Martin, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock and Gloria Estefan. Equally talented in classical, jazz and Latin genres, he has produced 13 albums and won a Latin Grammy in 2001 for "This Side of Paradise."

This presentation is made possible in part with generous support from the Friends of Lied.
