Winter Escape musical celebrations Dec. 4 and 5 at Sheldon Museum of Art

University Chamber Singers

Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate Winter Escape, two days of entertainment and art Dec. 4 and 5. The museum's Great Hall will be full of music and activities, as well as stunning winter decor.

The University Chamber Singers will perform at the First Friday Reception Dec. 4. This ensemble, directed by Therees Hibbard, is made up of 24 to 28 vocalists from the UNL School of Music. The choir explores a broad range of music and specializes in performing in beautiful and unique spaces such as Sheldon's Great Hall. On Dec. 5, Mike Mennard will delight children with his lively tunes. The Suzuki Strings, composed of children playing violins and violas, will follow.

These events are free and open to all. Events and activities include:

Friday, Dec. 4:

* 5-7 p.m. -- First Friday Reception, appetizers and cash bar.
* 5-7 p.m. -- The University Chamber Singers perform in the Great Hall.

Saturday, Dec. 5:

* 1-4 p.m. -- Refreshments, art-making stations.
* 1:30 p.m. -- Mike Mennard will perform in the auditorium.
* 2:45 p.m. -- The Suzuki Strings fill the auditorium with music.

This celebration is made possible by the Sheldon Art Association, the museum's dedicated support group. Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus, is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For information or to arrange a tour, call (402) 472-2461.
