Banquet focus is academic excellence, positive role models

            "Striving for Academic Excellence and Being a Positive Role Model" is the topic for a Community Leadership Banquet hosted by the UNL-UNO National Society of Black Engineers Oct. 21, in the Regency Room of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Nebraska Union, 14th and R streets.

            Makola M. Abdullah, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Florida Memorial University, will be the guest speaker at this year's dinner.

            National Society of Black Engineers students are also conduct a fundraising raffle, with a drawing for two tickets to the Oct. 29 Nebraskas vs. Michigan State football game. The drawing will be during the banquet, but the winner needs not be present. Raffle entries are $5 each or two for $8 and can be purchased from a NSBE member, by email to NSBE chapter programs chair Morgan Chatmon by email, or during the banquet. Raffle proceeds will support NSBE chapter members' travel to the 2012 NSBE National Conference in Pittsburgh.

            Advance tickets for the banquet are $5 for students, $7 for non-students or $40 for a table. At the dinner, tickets will be $8 for students and $10 for non-students. The dinner will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
