Lincoln, Neb., March 27th, 2014 —

High school teams from across the state will compete in the annual Nebraska Economics Challenge State Championships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on March 28. The Nebraska Council on Economic Education, housed at the UNL College of Business Administration, will host the top 10 teams in Nebraska to determine who has the greatest knowledge of economics. Teams have qualified for the state championship competition through online rounds of testing.

Competing high schools include Aurora, Bellevue East, East Butler, Kearney, Lincoln Northeast, Loup City, Millard North, Platteview and Waverly.

Teams will compete in one of two divisions for four rounds. The first three rounds focus on the broad range of economic issues from an international and national view to individual decision-making behavior. Following the first three rounds, the top two teams in each division will advance to a fast-paced quiz bowl to determine the state champion teams.

The state champions in both divisions will advance to a national semifinal competition on April 15. The top four teams from across the country will then advance to the national competition in New York.

The Nebraska Council on Economic Education and its five centers are focused on directly educating Nebraska's students and providing professional development for K-12 teachers to advance economic literacy. Its mission is to act as a catalyst and lead a statewide initiative to advance economic literacy. For more information visit http://www.nebraskacouncil.org.
