UNL to host 60th annual Income Tax Institute at 7 Nebraska sites

Lincoln, Neb., September 25th, 2014 —

            Tax professionals can start gearing up for tax season by registering for the 60th annual Federal and State Income Tax Institute conducted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at seven sites across the state in November and December.

            UNL will again partner with the Internal Revenue Service and the Nebraska Department of Revenue to bring training to tax professionals, preparers and advisers through the institute. More than 1,200 tax professionals participate on an annual basis at institutes in Lincoln, Scottsbluff, North Platte, Kearney, Grand Island, Norfolk and Omaha.

            Presenters include enrolled agents Frank Gaines, Gary Bredensteiner and Mark Burch as well as IRS senior stakeholder liaison Theresa McGill. Training will include new federal tax laws, ethics and important income tax updates and laws.

            "This year's presenters provide years of experience, in-depth knowledge and presentation styles that make complex tax issues easier to understand," said Virginia Uzendoski, Tax Institute senior assistant director. "Once again this year attendees will leave feeling comfortable and confident in their knowledge for the 2014 tax season."

            The Institute provides CPAs, enrolled agents, attorneys, certified financial planners, public accountants, tax preparers, paralegals, bookkeepers and banking, insurance and real-estate professionals with training to remain current on tax rules and regulations.

            The institute is accredited as an IRS Continuing Education Provider (No. NQ6J1). Participants will  have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits from UNL, including two hours of ethics credit.

            The locations and dates for the institute: Lincoln, Nov. 4-5 and Dec 2-3; Scottsbluff, Nov. 10-11; North Platte, Nov. 13-14; Kearney, Nov. 17-18; Grand Island, Nov. 20-21; Norfolk, Nov. 24-25; and Omaha, Dec 9-10.

After Oct. 7, the registration fee is $310. This fee includes all course materials and presentations. The Institute is sponsored by the UNL Office of Online and Distance Education.

            The Institute meets the requirements of 31 Code of Federal Regulations, section 10.6(g), covering maintenance of attendance records, retention of program outlines, qualifications of instructors and length of class hours. This agreement does not constitute an endorsement by the Return Preparer Office as to the quality of the program or its contribution to the professional competence of the enrolled individual. IRS Approved Continuing Education Provider No. NQ6J1.
