Chancellor Harvey Perlman shared the following with members of the UNL Saudi community upon learning of the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Dear Students and UNL Saudi Community Members:

At this moment, when the leadership of the United States of America is in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pay respects and reaffirm America’s ties to your country, I wish to extend my personal condolences following the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. King Abdullah will be remembered for a great many reasons, but I feel that his commitment to higher education and student exchanges will stand out among his many initiatives.

His personal commitment to invigorate education abroad scholarship programs for Saudi students after a long period of inattention has had a dramatic effect on the lives of the rising generation of Saudi Arabian leaders in many fields, and his direct support for the development of high quality science and technical university education at home will have a lasting impact in the region and the world.

Please accept my sincere sympathy at this sad time.

Harvey Perlman,

Chancellor
