NYU professor to discuss Bible, Dead Sea Scrolls at UNL

Lincoln, Neb., October 30th, 2015 —

Professor Lawrence Schiffman of New York University will present the lecture "The Reception of the Bible in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Rabbinic Judaism" at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Nebraska Union Auditorium, 1400 R St.

Schiffman is the Judge Abraham Lieberman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic studies at NYU and director of the Global Institute for Advanced Research in Jewish Studies. He is a specialist in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaism in late antiquity, the history of Jewish law and Talmudic literature. He has served as a consultant for PBS, the BBC and the Discovery Channel. He is the author of countless books and articles, including "Reclaiming the Dead Sea Scrolls."

The lecture, sponsored by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Classics and Religious Studies, is free and open to the public.
