Thirteen Outstanding Juniors Selected for 2009-2010 Membership in Innocents Society

EMILY ALTHOUSE
Emily Althouse, daughter of Steven and Tamara Althouse of Waverly, is an Elementary Education major. Emily is an NSE orientation leader, a co-chair in NHRI, and a rank leader in the Cornhusker Marching Band. Emily is a family relations representative for Dance Marathon and a Board member for the Scarlet Guard (Student Alumni Association). Emily is a Regents Scholar as well as a UNL Top Scholars Award winner.

SCOTT BARKER
Scott Barker, son of Ron and Kathryn Barker of Omaha, is majoring in Biological Systems Engineering with a minor in Energy Science. Scott is the president of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, as well as a co-chair for the Nebraska Human Resources Institute and an orientation leader for NSE. Scott was a family representative for Dance Marathon and is the recording secretary for the Engineering Student Advisory Board. Scott is on the College of Engineering Dean's List as well as the Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society) and is a nominee for the Outstanding Student Leader award.

BRIAN COBURN
Brian Coburn, son of Bill and Carol Coburn of Spearfish, SD, is a Biochemistry and Political Science double major with a Mathematics minor. Brian is a Kauffman Resident Assistant, a member of the Men's Soccer Club, the Chairman of ASUN's Committee for Fee Allocation and newly elected internal vice president. Brian is also a research assistant in Dr. Becker's Lab as well as a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Honors Program. Brian was a National Merit Finalist, FCLA Associate of the Year and is on the Dean's List.

MEGAN COLLINS
Megan Collins, daughter of Dan and Shelley Collins of Omaha, is a Business Administration major with minors in Political Science and Economics. Megan has served as the Special Topics Chair and as a Senator of the College of Business Administration and was recently elected ASUN President. Megan has served as Chi Omega Sorority's Personnel Chair and a New Student Enrollment (NSE) orientation leader. Megan is on the Big Event Executive Committee as well as the Honors Program Student Advisory Board. Megan is a Regents Scholar.

AMANDA CROOK
Amanda Crook, daughter of John and Sara Crook of Nebraska City, is a Political Science major, with minors in English & Economics. Amanda is a co-chair for NHRI, an NSE orientation leader, as well as a Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences in ASUN and newly elected external vice president. Amanda is the New Member Educator for Alpha Phi sorority, as well as a UCARE researcher. Amanda is a member of the Honors Program, a Pepsi Service Scholarship Recipient and a Nebraska at Oxford participant. 

CRAIG DAVIDSON
Craig Davidson, son of Mark Davidson of Lamar and Roxie Davidson of Imperial, is an Agribusiness major. Craig is involved in Nebraska Human Resources Institute (NHRI), Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity, and Order of Omega. Craig is also a member of UNL FFA Alumni, and is a Department of Agricultural Economics Ambassador. Craig has received an American FFA Degree and is a Regents Scholar.

COREY GEORGESEN
Corey Georgesen, son of Dan and Deb Georgesen of Omaha, is a Biochemistry and Chemistry major with minors in History and Math. Corey is the Dance Marathon Facilities Manager, a member of The Big Event Executive team, a member of Beta Theta Pi and Order of Omega. Corey serves on the Honors Program Student Advisory Board and is a Presidential Scholar. Corey is also an award winner of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and the Innocents Society James Pittenger Scholarship. 

STEPHEN KRUMLAND
Stephen Krumland, son of Gary and Nancy Krumland of Lincoln, is a Spanish and Latin American Studies major, going into Pre-Medicine. Stephen is the Risk Manager for Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, a St. Elizabeth Hospital Volunteer, and a Resident Assistant in Neihardt Hall. Stephen also serves on the College of Arts & Sciences Student Advisory Board and is an Office of Admissions Honors Tour Guide as well as participating in a FOCUS Bible Study. Stephen is a Regents Scholar was well as an Phi Kappa Theta National Academic Excellence Award winner.

SARA MCCUE
Sara McCue, daughter of Mark McCue of Spearfish, SD, and Yolanda McCue of Alliance, is a News-Editorial and Broadcasting major. She is the vice president of the Mexican American Student Association, a copy editor for the Daily Nebraskan and a University Honors Ambassador. Sara participates in Relay for Life and the Big Event. Sara has received a Peter Kiewit Scholarship, UNL Regents Scholarship and the Jerry and Karla Huse News-Editorial Scholarship. 

MATTHEW PEDERSON
Matthew Pederson, son of David Pederson of North Platte and Beth Forney of Alliance, is majoring in Secondary Education-Social Sciences. Matthew is the president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Fraternity, Chairman of ASUN's Academic Committee, Treasurer of the CEHS Student Advisory Board and a morale captain for Dance Marathon. Matt was an NSE orientation leader and a member of the Chancellor's Leadership Class. Matthew is on the CEHS Dean's List and has worked in the Nebraska Unicameral as a legislative page. 

STEPHANIE SUTTON
Stephanie Sutton, daughter of Margaret and Gregory Sutton of Lincoln, is an International Studies major. Stephanie is the co-founder and co-president of Divest Nebraska, president of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Board, treasurer of Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-health honor society, and a student advisor for Phi Eta Sigma honor society, Stephanie is also a member of Chi Omega sorority, and a LINC Mentor for international students. Stephanie is a UNL Regents Scholar and a UNL 4.0 High Scholar.

CARSON VAUGHAN
Carson Vaughan, son of Mary and Jerry Vaughan of Broken Bow, is a News-Editorial and English major. Carson is the Editor in Chief of the DailyER Nebraskan, Entertainment Chairman of the University Program Council as well as a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, serving on the Judicial Committee. Carson is also involved in the Nebraska Human Resource Institute, College of Journalism & Mass Communications Student Advisory Board and the UNL Honors Program. Carson received the Miller Family Scholarship as well as the Ben Kuroki Scholarship for Journalism and the John J. & Elizabeth Rhodes Foundation Scholarship. 

ALEX WOLF
Alex Wolf, son of Jay and Susie Wolf of Albion, is an Agribusiness major. Alex is the president of the Interfraternity Council, and the vice president of FarmHouse fraternity and the secretary for Union Board. Alex is also involved in Navigators and Dance Marathon. Alex is a Regents Scholar and a McKelvie Scholarship winner. Alex is on the Dean's List.

KARALYNN BROWN
Karalynn, daughter of Michael and Janice Brown of Omaha, NE, is majoring in International Studies and News Editorial with minors in English, Spanish and Political Science. Karalynn previously served as Scholarship Chair and Standards Representative of Gamma Phi Beta and also former publications chair for Honors Ambassadors. She is has studied abroad in Spain and currently studying human rights in Estonia. Karalynn serves as a consultant for the UNL Writing Assistance Center, volunteers at the Lincoln Literacy Council and is a UCARE grant recipient. Karalynn is a Regents Scholar, a member of the honors program, on the Dean's list, and is a former Mortar Board notable.

KELSEY BROWN
Kelsey, daughter of Steve and Colleen Brown of Omaha, NE, is majoring in psychology and minoring in studio art and plans to attend nursing school. Kelsey is president of The Nebraska Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Recruitment Video Chairman for Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Health Assessment Chairman for the "Engineers Without Borders" service project in Madagascar this May. Previously, she served as the Panhellenic Vice President for her sorority as well as a UNL Conference Assistant. Kelsey is the recipient of the Gus Swanson Memorial Communications Scholarship, a member of the Dean's List for the College of Arts & Sciences, and received the "Outstanding Artist" award from the Joslyn Art Museum.

AMANDA BYLEEN
Amanda, daughter of Judson and Karen Byleen, is a senior speech-language pathology and audiology major from Lincoln, NE. Amanda serves as sisterhood chair for Chi Omega sorority, is the Capernaum team leader for YoungLife, and a member of Order of Omega. She participates in the PALS project for Nebraska Human Resources Institute, is a member of the College of Education and Human Sciences Advisory Board, and Nebraska Student Speech Language and Hearing Association. Amanda is the recipient of the Barkley Memorial Scholarship, the Chancellor's Leadership Award, and is on the Dean's List. 

RICHARD J. CANTRIL
Richard, son of Richard N. and Nita Cantril of Scottsbluff, NE, is majoring in Business administration. Richard is the president of Delta Epsilon Chi Collegiate (DECA), vice-president of Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society and is the founding president of the Academy of National Hispanic Scholars. He was a Chancellor's Leadership Class Coordinator, is a Business Leadership Development Instructor Assistant and is in the University Honors Program. Richard is a recipient of the UNL National Hispanic Scholarship, a 2008 delegate to the U.S. Naval Academy Leadership Conference, and a UNL 4.0 High Scholar. 

KRISTEN COCHRAN
Kristen, daughter of Robert and Jill Cochran of Omaha, NE, is majoring in Food Science and Technology. Kristen serves as the recruitment chair for Chi Omega, is a Capernaum Leader for YoungLife and is the Blood Drive Committee Chair for Campus Red Cross. She is a member of the UCARE Program, the UNL Food Science Club and is a Morale Captain for Dance Marathon. Kristen is a recipient of the James Canfield Scholarship, the Oak B. Smith Scholarship and the University of Nebraska Cornish Fund. 

MINDY COLGROVE
Mindy, daughter of Mike and Peggy Colgrove of Naperville, IL, is a Biochemistry, Psychology and Pre-medicine major with minors in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. Mindy has served on the Executive Committee and as an Administrative Assistant for Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, is a member of The Big Event Executive Committee and a Health Aide. She is a peer mentor leader for the Honors Program, treasurer of Omicron Delta Kappa and a member of Cather Circle. Mindy is a recipient of the Jayne Wade Anderson Scholarship, the George Beadle Scholarship and a Certificate of High Scholarship from the All-University Honors Convocation.

MORGAN ROSE CONLEY
Morgan, sibling to Taria and Christopher Conley and Melanie Jones of Omaha, NE, is majoring in Psychology with a minor in History. Morgan is Afrikan Peoples Union secretary, president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and on the Diversity Enhancement Team. She is a Melvin W. Jones Scholar, serves as the Abel Residence Hall Association secretary, and is a Pepsi Service Scholar. Morgan is a Golden Key recipient, Miss Black and Gold for the Beta Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and is on the Dean's List. 

HEIDI GENGENBACH
Heidi, daughter of Marc and Karen Gengenbach of Blair, NE, is a Biological Systems Engineering and Biochemistry double major. Heidi is the president of NU Meds, a New Student Enrollment Leader and a UCARE Research Grant Recipient. She is a member of the College of Engineering Diplomats and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. Heidi is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, the College of Engineering O.J. Ferguson Outstanding Junior Award and a member of the Honors Program.

MICHELLE GERGEN
Michelle, daughter of Tim and Linda Gergen of Valley, NE, is a speech language pathology major. Michelle currently serves on the member development committee for Alpha Phi sorority, is a junior project co-chair for NHRI, and is a member of Order of Omega. She is a UCARE undergraduate research participant, a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and a student leader for FOCUS. Michelle is a recipient of the Regents Scholarship, the Dr. Lucille Cypreansen Memorial Scholarship and is on the College of Educaiton and Human Sciences Dean's List.

ERIC HAMILTON
Eric, son of James and Sue Hamilton of Omaha, NE, is majoring in Political Science and Economics with a minor in History. Eric serves as Chairman for the UNL Publications Board, public relations director for Dance Marathon and is a member of the Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Board. He is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma. Eric is the recipient of the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship, the Nebraska Republican Party Leader of Tomorrow Award and The Ally Milder Future Leader Award. 

DAVID KNOX 
David, son of Tom and Cindy Knox of Overland Park, KS, is majoring in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics and printmaking. David is a UCARE research assistant, a member of Campus Red Cross and on the Rotary Program Staff for Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of the UNL Ballroom Dance Company, clay club, and Phi Sigma Pi Honor Society. David is an Eagle Scout, a finalist in the 2008 and 2009 undergraduate art competitions, a recipient to the Faulkner Freedman Scholarship and the UNL scholarship memorial funds of O.M. Labounty and Nellie May Vance.

KELSEY LATSHAW
Kelsey, daughter of Sandra and Dale Latshaw of Lincoln, NE, is a Landscape Architecture major with a minor in community and regional planning. Kelsey is president of the American Society of Landscape Architecture, the Gamma Phi Beta Philanthropy Chair and an Honors Program Peer Mentor. She is a UCARE research assistant, a member of the College of Architecture Student Leadership board and on the Landscape Architecture Program Director faculty search committee. Kelsey is a Pepsi Service Scholar, a member of the Honors Program and an Alpha Lambda Delta National Scholarship recipient.

LAURA MARICLE
Laura, daughter of Keith and Mary Ann Maricle of Albion, NE, is majoring in Agricultural Journalism with a minor in Animal Science. Laura is Vice-President of UNL Future Farmers of America Alumni, previous president of Agriculture communicators of Tomorrow and is a Nebraska Beef Industry Scholar. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority, secretary of Agriculture Youth Council and a member of CASNR Week Program Council. Laura is a member of Alpha Zeta Honor Fraternity, a recipient of the American FFA Degree and the Dekalb Agriculture Accomplishment Award

PAIGE MATHEW
Paige, daughter of Linda and Joseph Mathew of Omaha, NE, is majoring in nutrition science with minors in mathematics and chemistry. Paige is a counselor for Nebraska Human Resource Institute, a Resident Assistant in Abel Residence hall, and a copy editor for the Daily"ER" Nebraskan newspaper. She does microbiology research through the INBRE Scholars Program. Paige serves as a teaching assistant for BIOS 314 and EDPS 337, is a member of Cather Circle and is a service trip leader for student involvement.

ASHLEY McDONALD
Ashley, daughter of Dave and Laurie McDonald of Rockville, NE, is majoring in psychology with a communication studies minor. Ashley is the president of Kappa Delta sorority, a member of the ASUN Government Liaison committee and in the Honors Program. She is a UCARE participant with Dr. Sandra Wiebe, a member of Order of Omega and Chi Alpha. Ashley is a recipient of the Honors Program textbook scholarship, was a 2006 NSAA Believer and Achiever and is an inductee of the National Kappa Delta President's Club.

RYAN McINTOSH 
Ryan, son of Kelly and Brenda McIntosh of Unadilla, NE, is a political science major with minors in psychology and communication studies. Ryan is the kitchen manager and technology chair for Farmhouse fraternity, a member of Nebraska Human Resources Institute, and on the College of Arts and Sciences student advisory board. He participates in an Army Reserve officer training course, is a member of the Navigators student leadership team and Pi Sigma Alpha Nation Honor Society. Ryan is a recipient of the Arm Battalion Commanders Award, the William Carson Scholarship and the Roger W. Shull Memorial Scholarship. 

BECKY MODEROW 
Becky, daughter of Roger and Patti Moderow of Lyons, NE, is an Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development major. Becky serves as external vice president of Phi Mu sorority, is a member of Lester, Navigators and Bible Study. She is also involved in the Big Event, Dance Marathon and Cather Circle. Becky is the recipient of the Robert and Gladys Kinyoun scholarship, is within UNL's top 10% and is on the Dean's List.

SAMANTHA MOSIER
Samantha, daughter of Mitch and Karen Mosier of Woodland Park, CO, is a business administration major with minors in communication studies and psychology. Samantha is the coordinator of campaigns for Husker Choices, a Co-Chair for teenage projects in Nebraska Human Resources Institute, and an Honors Peer Mentor Leader. She is an Undergraduate Research Assistant on the Children in Court Project for UCARE, the song chair for Chi Omega sorority, and Internal Relations chair for the College of Business Administration Student Advisory Board. Samantha is a recipient of the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame Scholarship, the Coloradoans for Nebraska Scholarship and was a 2006 Rotary Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in Southern Colorado.

SOPHIE NORMAN
Sophie, daughter of Judd and Patti Norman of Lincoln, NE, is majoring in Finance with a minor in Economics. Sophie is Vice President of Programming and previous Vice President of Finance for Delta Gamma sorority, a Recruitment Guide for Greek Affairs, and a Nebraska at Oxford Study Abroad participant. She is a volunteer for Gamma Girls, a mentoring program at Hartley Elementary, and also volunteers as a reader for the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Sophie is a member of the Greek Honorary Society Order of Omega, a recipient of the Delta Gamma Foundation Scholarship and is on the Dean's List.

AMY PAUL 
Amy, daughter of Kevin and Kathy Paul of Clive, IA, is a middle grades education major. Amy serves as vice president of communications for Delta Gamma sorority, was a 2008 New Student Enrollment leader and is a Morale Captain for Dance Marathon. She is peer mentor leader for the Honors Program, secretary for the College of Education and Human Sciences Student Advisory Board, and parliamentarian for Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. Amy is a member of Order of Omega Greek Senior Honorary, is a David Distinguished Scholar and was a member of the Chancellor's Leadership Class.

JASON PLOUZEK 
Jason, son of Jim and Nan Plouzek of Hickman, NE, is a business administration major. Jason is a New Student Enrollment Leader and staff specialist, standards chair for Sigma Phi Epsilon and is the vice president of Students for Organ Donation. He serves as public relations chair for Inter-fraternity council, is a participant in Dance Marathon and an ASUN CONNECT Party member. Jason is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a recipient of the George and Mary Haskell Scholarship and is on the Dean's List.

STEF REINSCH
Stef, daughter of John and Diane Reinsch of Lincoln , NE, is majoring in Psychology with minors in Sociology, History, and Child Youth and Family. Stef is the Youth Service Coordinator for the University funded grant Project TEAMS, a Volunteer Staff Member for the Nebraska Association of Student Councils summer leadership workshop, and a research assistant for the Psychology Department. She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, the Gamma Phi Beta FOCUS Bible Study Leader, and a member of a women's all-Greek FOCUS Bible Study. She served as former Recruitment Skit chair and Social Chair of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She is a recipient of the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 Gamma Phi Beta Pi Chapter Scholarship, and is on the Dean's List.

KAYLA RUBENTHALER
Kayla, daughter of Dirk & Deb Rubenthaler of Gothenburg, NE, is an Animal Science/Pre-Vet major with minors in Agricultural Leadership Education and Communication. Kayla serves as philanthropy chair for Chi Omega, is a member of the UNL Pre-Vet Club, and The Big Event Executive Team secretary. She is on the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Advisory Board, a member of Order of Omega and is a recent member of the Nebraska Pork Mentoring Program. Kayla is a recipient of the Peter Kiewit Foundation Scholarship, the UNL Regents Scholarship and is on the Dean's List.

JEFFREY SCHROEDER
Jeffrey, son of Mark and Debra Schroeder of West Point, NE, is triple majoring in agricultural business, food science and animal science. Jeffrey serves as the president of CASNR Advisory Board, treasurer for Agricultural Economics Club, and rush chair for Alpha Gamma Rho. He is a member of FFA Alumni and Alpha Zeta. Jeffrey is the National FFA Beef Proficiency Winner, the winner of the National FFA Risk Management Essay Contest and a recipient of the National Alpha Gamma Rho Excellence in Scholarship. 

MEGAN SLATTERY 
Megan, daughter of Alan and Ruth Slattery of Lincoln, NE, is majoring in speech-language pathology and audiology. Megan is a UCARE Research Project participant, a member of FOCUS bible study and is an RCIA team member for the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center. She is a member of Nebraska Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a Dance Marathon participant and a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Megan is on the Dean's List, is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Tau Sigma Honor Society.

NICOLE STARKEY
Nicole, daughter of Sharon and Jerry Starkey of Grand Island, NE, is majoring in Political Science, Economics and International Studies with minors in History and Spanish. Nicole is president of Pi Sigma Alpha, was secretary of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board and is ASUN Recording Secretary. She is a member of Nebraskans for Peace, a LINC Mentor and was Cather President of the Cather-Pound Residence Association. Nicole is a UCARE participant, a member of the Honors Program and a representative at the Student Conference on US Affairs.

ANDREW VOLKMER 
Andrew, son of Bill and Carolyn Volkmer of Syracuse, NE, is an agricultural engineering major. Andrew is a member of University Program council, a Dance marathon participant and sacristan for St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center Advisory Board. He also serves as business manager for Farmhouse fraternity. Andrew is a recipient of the Lloyd W. and Margaret Hurbult Memorial Scholarship, the Roger W. Shull Memorial Scholarship and has an American FFA Degree. 

CARA WALDO
Cara, daughter of Lee and Joni Waldo of DeWitt, NE, is a political science and international studies major with minors in English and Spanish. Cara serves as vice president of development for Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, is a member of Order of Omega and the Honors Program Student Advisory Board. She is a senator and Appointments Secretary for ASUN, president of E.N. Thompson International Scholars and a member of Cather Circle. Cara is a previous Mortar Board Notable, a recipient of the Phi Eta Sigma national Scholarship and the Ann McCloud Memorial Scholarship.
