UNL AWARDS $12 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO NEBRASKA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

	Lincoln, Neb., Aug. 5, 2010 -- The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced the awarding of nearly 1,500 scholarships 2010 Nebraska high school graduates. The total potential value of the scholarships is more than $12 million.
	The awards are comprised of 25 Chancellor's Scholarships, 350 Regents Scholarships (including 117 Nebraska Top Scholars), 51 Nebraska Achievement Scholarships, 90 David Distinguished Scholarships, 797 James H. Canfield Scholarships, 64 Chancellor's Leadership Class scholarships and 34 Pepsi Scholarships.
	CHANCELLOR'S and REGENTS SCHOLARSHIPS are among the most prestigious awards granted by the university and each pay tuition for full-time students (equivalent to a cash value of approximately $25,350) and are renewable for up to 135 credit hours or completion of a bachelor's degree provided eligibility requirements are met.
	New this year and funded in part by the Cooper Foundation, Chancellor's Scholarships also provide $2,000 in additional scholarships support for four academic years. 
	The students who were selected as Nebraska Top Scholars will receive at least $1,500 per year in scholarship awards beyond their Regents Scholarship awards from UNL or the University of Nebraska Foundation, provided they meet renewal criteria each year.
	NEBRASKA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS are based on academic achievement, admission test scores and information in the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Eight of the scholarships are for tuition with the other 43 offering $1,000 per year. The scholarships are renewable for up to four years provided continuing eligibility conditions are met.
	DAVID DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR awards offer full-time students $1,000 annually for up to four years if they meet renewal requirements. David Distinguished Scholarships are funded from a trust established in 1973 by the late Adrian H. David, a former Minneapolis attorney, in honor of his parents. Adrian David was a 1908 graduate of the NU College of Law. The trust also funds faculty research projects, placing a special emphasis on cancer research.
	CANFIELD SCHOLARSHIPS, named for the chancellor who led the University of Nebraska to a position of national prominence in the 1890s, offer full-time students a one-year award of $1,000.
	Members of the CHANCELLOR'S LEADERSHIP CLASS are awarded one-year scholarships of $1,000. The award was created to recognize and reward students who have excelled both academically and in leadership roles in school and community activities. Members must be full-time students and participate in scheduled Chancellor's Leadership Class activities.
	PEPSI SCHOLARSHIPS are one-year, $1,000 scholarships to full-time students who participate in scheduled weekly leadership development seminars that focus on volunteer service. The award recognizes students who understand the importance of volunteerism and have demonstrated leadership and dedication in working to improve their communities.
	Students admitted to the UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM receive book scholarships that provide up to $500 per year.
	An individual student can qualify for one Chancellor's, Regents, Nebraska Achievement, David Distinguished or Canfield scholarship. Pepsi and Chancellor's Leadership Class scholarships may be combined with other awards.
