Drop-In Advising

Drop-in advising is great for short questions about course information, grade option, completing forms and other things of that nature. Students should schedule an academic advising appointment to discuss degree plans and goal setting. Drop-in advising is available via zoom only, you will enter the Zoom waiting room at https://unl.zoom.us/my/casadvising and be seen in the order you entered.
Carmen’s Drop-Ins - Tuesdays from 1- 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

August 28 (Mon.) Last day for full semester course registrations and adds including adds of thesis or dissertation credits (Census Date)
August 28 (Mon.) Last day to drop a full semester course and receive 100% refund
September 1 (Fri.) Last day to drop a full semester course and receive 75% refund
September 1 (Fri.) Last day to file a drop to remove a full semester course from student’s record
September 2 (Sat.) – November 10 (Fri.) All course withdrawals noted with a grade of “W” on academic record
September 4 (Mon.) Labor Day (Student and Staff Holiday-UNL offices closed)
September 8 (Fri.) Last day to withdraw from a full semester course and receive 50% refund
September 12 (Tues.) Last day to submit tuition and fees payment without penalty
September 15 (Fri.) Last day to withdraw from a full semester course and receive 25% refund
September 15 (Fri.) Final day to apply for a degree in December ($25.00 fee due with application)

Class DescriptionStill openings in Dialogue Across Difference (COMM360)
Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-1:45

Due to the ever-increasing polarization in society, it is imperative that individuals learn the skills and gain practice in having open and engaging interactions across difference. The aim of this course is to provide students with practice in communicating across difference as well as understanding the factors that facilitate constructive and positive outcomes of dialogue through reflection and application of theory and research. During the course of the semester, students will:
 Engage in a semester-long small group discussions about important social topics and issues to gain practice in communicating about and across difference
 Learn about barriers and challenges to that are at the heart of our current polarization along with strategies and processes that enable more constructive engagement with others
 Learn about dialogue programs and initiatives in educational contexts, communities, and regions with ethnopolitical conflict to understand the applied nature of course concepts and ideas.
 Develop their own program or initiative to address a social issue on campus or the community that is of interest to the student. Students have chosen to enact this proposal in subsequent semester for personal /or academic goals (e.g., thesis, independent research, professional experience)
 Satisfies ACE 2 Student Learning Outcome

UNL Mock Trial

Are you planning on enrolling in law school? Do you want to get a preview of the life of the attorneys in the show Suits or How to Get Away with Murder? Come to one of the UNL Mock Trial informational meetings on August 24th or August 25th at 7:30pm in Union Food Court A!

Mock Trial is a competition that involves undergraduate students portraying witnesses and attorneys in a mock courtroom setting. It is an excellent way to learn how a trial works, all while teaching necessary skills like public speaking and critical thinking. Mock Trial is a great way to meet new people and make connections with people going into a law-related field.
