Join us for our first in person Global Cafe: Coffee with a Diplomat of this year. We're excited to welcome Diplomat in Residence Ms. Sara Stealy. Ms. Stealy will share information about internships, jobs, and other opportunities with State Department and how you too can pursue a career in this exciting field.
Sara Stealy joined the Foreign Service in 2008 and currently serves as the diplomat in residence for the Central region (ND, SD, NE, KS, IA, MO). Her overseas assignments include public affairs officer in Vilnius, Lithuania (2019-2022); press attaché in Accra, Ghana (2015-2018); consular-political-economic officer in Riga, Latvia (2011-2013); and deputy public affairs officer in Lusaka, Zambia (2008-2010). From 2013-2015 she served in Washington, D.C., as the State Department’s first global new media advisor for Consular Affairs, where she trained consular and public affairs sections on using digital platforms for outreach and crisis communications.

Experiences are 8-12 weeks with up to 15 hours per week and in person. Pay is $15/hour. Opportunities are available in the areas of:

Book Discussion - The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History

Thursday, September 28 from 12:30-1:30 Central Time.
Ned Blackhawk will discuss his recent book The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History, which argues for the centrality of Native people and their nations throughout American history from the colonial era to the present. Maggie Blackhawk will discuss the influence of her work on Supreme Court cases including Brackeen and McGirt as well as her scholarship on the centrality of Federal Indian Law in Constitutional Law, which is both a curricular and conceptual concern. Together, they will discuss the NYU-Yale American Indian Sovereignty Project, a hub that supports initiatives pertaining to tribal sovereignty and federal Indian law in the United States. Katrina Jagodinsky of UNL's Digital Legal Research Lab will moderate the discussion and invite questions from the audience, including our students. Legislative Pages are selected in the fall each year to work for the upcoming legislative session, beginning the following January. Pages respond to senators’ request lights on the legislative floor. They run errands, deliver messages, photocopy materials, get food and drink for the senators, assist the presiding officer, set up and staff committee hearings and perform other duties as assigned. Applications are available through the Clerk of the Legislature's Office, Room 2018, State Capitol, 1445 K Street, or online at https://nebraskalegislature.gov/unicampages A page applicant is encouraged to contact his or her home district state senator for a letter of recommendation. Victory Congressional Internship

The LGBTQ+ Victory Institute brings outstanding LGBTQ+ college students to Washington, DC, for an 8- or 10-week intensive leadership program, including an internship with an LGBTQ-friendly member of Congress or caucus. This is a paid opportunity and includes a living stipend, housing in DC, travel to/from DC, transportation stipend, and travel/registration to the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference in December 2024.
The internship is open to current LGBTQ undergraduate students of all genders, orientations, abilities, races, and political affiliations, including people with majors other than political science. If you’re interested in public service, building your leadership skills, and working on advocacy, this is the internship for you!
