Hello Communication Studies Students!

We are starting week 6 of your fall semester. You should have received some grades and feedback in your classes whether through graded assignments or quizzes and exams. If you are wanting some extra assistance in performing at a certain level or just wanting assistance in managing your time better, the Center for Academic Success and Transition is the place for you! The mission of the Center for Academic Success and Transition (CAST) is to engage, empower, and support all students in and out of the classroom. They offer one-on-one coaching, tutoring, first-year seminar courses, a summer bridge program, peer mentoring, and a two week study abroad program to Singapore for students who participate in our CAST POWER programs.
Academic Success Coaches are available to help students succeed. Students can connect with coaches in person or on Zoom. Please make appointments via Student Success Hub, or by calling 402-472-1880.

BOSR’s 60th Anniversary Speaker Series

To highlight BOSR’s role in the applied social research world, we are bringing out a series of high impact speakers from the survey research and polling world over this academic year.

Eran Ben-Porath, Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer at SSRS, will be coming on Monday, October 9. Talk from 12:30-1:30 on October 9.
Eran Ben-Porath is SSRS’s Chief Research Director and Executive Vice Present. Eran has been with SSRS for fifteen years, having received his PhD in communication from the Annenberg School at the University of Pennsylvania. At SSRS, he manages the public opinion research team, overseeing dozens of projects annually, predominantly involving quantitative data collection, on behalf of academic researchers, research-foundations, and news media organizations. His clients include CNN, KFF, The University of Pennsylvania, The Harvard School of Public Health, and CBS News. Eran specializes in several facets of survey research, including sampling and questionnaire design, project management, and weighting. He has served on AAPOR’s education and standards committees. Prior to his survey research career, Eran was a television news producer in Israel.

Legislative Pages are selected in the fall each year to work for the upcoming legislative session, beginning the following January. Pages respond to senators’ request lights on the legislative floor. They run errands, deliver messages, photocopy materials, get food and drink for the senators, assist the presiding officer, set up and staff committee hearings and perform other duties as assigned. Applications are available through the Clerk of the Legislature's Office, Room 2018, State Capitol, 1445 K Street, or online at https://nebraskalegislature.gov/unicampages A page applicant is encouraged to contact his or her home district state senator for a letter of recommendation. If you do not know who your senator is, please contact the Clerk of the Legislature's office for assistance or visit the Find Your Senator page on the legislature’s website and enter your address in the text box.
