The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is offering four courses during the Fall Three-Week Session from Nov. 30 to Dec. 18.
Enroll in an online class during the fall Three-Week Session to make progress toward your degree, enhance your professional credentials or tackle a grand challenge.
Register by Sunday, Sept. 20 in MyRed. Availability is limited, so sign up today! Scholarships and financial aid options are available to qualifying students.
Among the 60 remote courses being offered are these four courses in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. There are no prerequisites for any of the four courses listed below:
• THEA 398 (Section 100) Black Theatre and Social Justice (3 Credits)
Gain a deeper understanding of the issues facing the black community through intensive exploration of plays written by contemporary black playwrights while expanding your world view and perspectives regarding diversity and inclusion, including the Black Lives Matter movement.
• DANC 398/EMAR 391 Mindfulness and Embodied Practices for Well Being (3 Credits)
Learn various mindful activities to grow and enhance stability and mobility of your body and mind including guided meditations and somatic activities, such as Pilates, Yoga, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Alexander Technique, and the Feldenkrais Method, to encourage feelings of well-being, reduce stress, and find the stable core, physically and emotionally.
• EMAR 160 Computation and Media Studio I (ACE 3) (3 Credits)
Learn the fundamentals of computer programming for interactive media used in gaming, mobile, and web-based media. Unlike traditional computer science courses, you will learn these skills within the context of the emerging media arts.
• THEA 398 Improv for Improved Leadership Skills (3 Credits)
Learn how to react and adapt to unusual, unfamiliar, or unexpected changes in a professional environment with the "soft" theatre skills you'll practice, along with techniques of voice and physical presence, to command attention.
Nebraska’s modified fall academic calendar created an opportunity for additional academic offerings for interested students beginning the week after Thanksgiving.
"The pandemic has limited educational experiences for students this year, and UNL's fall three-week session helps them continue their educational journey," said Elizabeth Spiller, executive vice chancellor. "We are pleased to offer innovative new courses in this supplemental session for students who are looking for additional opportunities for experiential learning, career skills and readiness, and topic-based courses that reflect this historic moment in which we are living.”
All Fall Three-Week Sessions will be fully remote—there will be no on-campus instruction. If a class has a synchronous component, meaning you’ll be required to attend class on Zoom, specific days and times will be listed in MyRed.
