Two in-person AI faculty workshop sessions offered

AI Workshops: Aug. 18, 20; Aug. 19, 21
AI Workshops: Aug. 18, 20; Aug. 19, 21

The Engineering and Computing Education Core and the PRAIRIE Initiative are coordinating two AI workshops on both campuses to build a pedagogical foundation and practical AI strategies: Aug. 18-19 and Aug. 19-21.

Fall 2026 Prep Workshop - Coordinated with the PRAIRIE Initiative

Is Your Course AI-Ready? Rethinking Course Design for an AI-Enabled Learning Environment
Generative AI is changing how students approach learning, creating new opportunities, and new challenges for teaching. Whether you plan to encourage, limit, or prohibit AI in your course, students will arrive this fall with AI as part of their learning toolkit. This interactive workshop invites engineering faculty to think beyond AI tools and focus on designing learning experiences that promote deep understanding, meaningful engagement, and academic integrity.

Bring a syllabus, assignment, or other course materials, and work alongside colleagues to examine your course through the lens of effective teaching and learning. Together, we'll explore practical strategies for making intentional decisions about AI that align with your learning goals, support student success, and preserve the rigor of your discipline. You'll leave with fresh ideas, concrete next steps, and greater confidence as you prepare your course for the fall semester.

Workshop Dates
Same workshop offered on both campuses; attend the date and location that works for you.

*Tuesday, August 18 | 10:00–11:00 a.m. – Scott Campus (Room PKI 157)
*Thursday, August 20 | 10:00–11:00 a.m. – City Campus (Room KH A549)

Practical Approaches for Teaching in the Era of AI -
Seeing What Today's Tools Can Do, and Putting Them to Work in Your Course
The capabilities of generative AI have changed substantially in the past year, and students have kept pace. Offered in collaboration with the PRAIRIE Initiative, this workshop complements the pedagogical foundation of the first session with a direct look at what these tools can now do with the kinds of assignments engineering faculty give, and at how students are already using them. Seeing that capability firsthand is the most reliable starting point for practical decisions about your own course.

Bring a syllabus, assignment, or other course materials. We'll begin with live demonstrations of current AI tools working on real coursework, then turn to your own materials with PRAIRIE's shared framework for responsible AI use and a set of practical techniques: setting clear expectations for AI use, adapting an assignment, making student learning more visible, and using AI to support your own teaching work. You'll leave having made a concrete change to at least one assignment, and better prepared to teach with confidence in an AI-enabled classroom.
