ACADEMIC ADVISING

Carmen's pictureAdvising appointments are available for meetings via In-Person or Zoom. Visit the Student Success Hub to schedule an appointment with Carmen (you can see your assigned advisor in MyRED or the Student Success Hub). If scheduling an online zoom meeting, the instructions for connecting to the Zoom meeting are in your appointment confirmation email sent to your huskers.unl.edu email account.

Drop-In Advising

Drop-in advising is great for short questions about course information, grade option, completing forms and other things of that nature. Students should schedule an academic advising appointment to discuss degree plans and goal setting. Drop-in advising is available via zoom only, you will enter the Zoom waiting room at https://unl.zoom.us/my/casadvising and be seen in the order you entered.

September 12 (Thurs.) Last day to submit tuition and fees payment without penalty
September 13 (Fri.) Last day to withdraw from a full semester course and receive 50% refund
September 13 (Fri.) Final day to apply for a degree in December ($25.00 fee due with application)
September 20 (Fri.) Last day to withdraw from a full semester course and receive 25% refund
October 18 (Fri.) Last day to change a full semester course registration to or from “Pass/No Pass”

FIRST SEMESTER STUDENTS - REQUIRED ADVISING

This appointment can cover a lot of different information - adjusting to college, academic success, getting involved on campus, or planning for your major/minor for graduation. Communication Studies Scholarship

Communication Studies SchoalrshipStudents meeting the following criteria are eligible to apply:

• Communication Studies major
• Junior or senior class standing
• Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above

In addition to these criteria, recipients should demonstrate involvement in activities and/or leadership within the Department of Communication Studies. Students may also discuss activities and/or leadership in the College of Arts & Sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and/or the local community. Special consideration to First Generation students although all students are encouraged to apply.

To apply, students should submit the following to Dr. Jordan Soliz (jsoliz2@unl.edu) by October 15th: (a) current resume, (b) a 1-2 page letter addressing how your experiences match the criteria listed above, (c) unofficial transcript, and (d) name and contact information for two references that can speak to your academic achievements, involvement in the aforementioned activities, and/or leadership in the department and/or university. Applicants will be notified prior to end of the Fall 2024 Semester.

Retiring in 2020, Dr. William (Bill) Seiler was an award-winning teacher and scholar serving as a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies for 48 years including 21 years as Department Chair. Join us for one of our Discover Days and get to know Nebraska Law and what makes our school special. Talk with Admissions, Career Development and current students. You'll get a chance to tour our beautiful building, including our newly renovated library and innovative clinic space. Most Discover Days also offer a chance to attend a first-year law class. Our Discover Days are approximately 3.5 hours long. We look forward to hosting you!

LEGISLATIVE PAGE APPLICATION OPEN FOR 2025 SESSION

We are seeking motivated and responsible college students to assist with the upcoming session as pages. This role provides a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience with Nebraska’s legislative process while developing professional workplace skills. Law Degrees in Action - Exploring Legal Careers with Nebraska Law Alumni

October 15th at 3:30 in the Chimney Rock Room at the City Union
This will be a panel discussion with three of our alums: Emma Franklin who is a corporate lawyer with a firm in Omaha; Adam Morfeld whose career has been in activism and politics; and Katherine Hoatson, a recent graduate now working with the Lancaster County Public Defender’s Office. Our thought is that this gives attendees some insights into transactional law, public interest practice, and a more traditional trial attorney career path.
