Call for Applicants: New Teacher Network

NebraskaMATH is currently accepting applications from secondary mathematics teachers for the New Teacher Network program. Secondary teachers in their first three years of teaching are encouraged to apply.

Applications for early consideration are due Nov. 30, 2011. Teachers who apply by Nov. 30 will be notified of their status by Dec. 15, 2011. The final application deadline is Jan. 16, 2012. Please encourage teachers in your ESU, district or school to apply by forwarding this email to them, or send them the link to our website: http://scimath.unl.edu/newteachernetwork.

Teachers can apply online now at: https://cse.unl.edu/~scimath/apps/apply.php.

New Teacher Network teachers may take 24 graduate credit hours at no cost to the teacher for tuition or fees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including courses designed for Algebra I teachers, courses designed specifically for New Teacher Network teachers through the Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes, and one additional academic-year mathematics or education course. New Teacher Network also provides professional networking and high-quality mentoring that connects teachers to one another across the state.

One teacher said after taking a New Teacher Network course in 2011: "I had to really think about the level that I teach at and how to deepen the cognitive work of my students to more deeply understand the concepts. The process is more important than the product."

If you or your colleagues have any questions about the program, please contact us at nebraskamath@unl.edu or call 402-472-8979. Thank you for helping us to promote our efforts in strengthening mathematics education.
