Homeland Security has issued a cyber alert for November 5, in conjunction with "The Million Mask March," an international event organized by Anonymous. Lincoln and Kearney are both listed as locations for live activities.
While the event is billed as a peaceful protest, there is a video that includes some generic threats of cyber attacks.
Homeland security and Information Technology Services recommends the following actions be taken:
· Do NOT visit un-trusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or un-trusted sources
· Be cautious when clicking on links in emails coming from trusted sources
· Ensure anti-virus is installed and definitions are up to date
· Ensure patches and updates are installed for operating systems and applications
· Run regular vulnerability scans against the network and web applications
