Accounts for Box, a premier cloud collaboration and storage service are now available for all faculty and staff. Box enables users to access their files from virtually any device using their MyUNL credentials. Every account receives up to 50 gigabytes of storage capacity at no charge. Accounts for all students are expected to roll out later this year.
"Box is a great service for many reasons," says Nate Morris, client relationship manager for Information Technology Services. "Its really easy to use. You can collaborate with colleagues on and off campus from your desktop or your smartphone. Your files are backed up and kept secure."
Over 240 universities and eighty two percent of Fortune 500 corporations use Box.
UNL and UNO jointly signed a contract February 1, as participating members of Internet 2, a higher-ed technology consortium. The contract also included University of Nebraska Central Administration and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE.
ITS and Research are currently developing guidance on what type of research would be appropriate for storage on Box. More details will be announced soon on the Box@UNL Terms of Service page.
