Eugene “Gene” Krienert, will be honored at a retirement reception on February 24, 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Krienert served as an application development and support specialist for Information Technology Services and is retiring after 47 years of service to the university.
Krienert began his career in 1970 as a control clerk, managing key punch cards, delivering reports and even unloading trucks of paper under West Stadium. “The end of month reports for accounting used to take 40 boxes of paper to print,” recalled Krienert.
In 1978, he began programming systems for accounting, human resources and student information. Over the years, Krienert utilized up to fifteen different programming languages for various systems and reports. In 1998, Krienert was a key team member to launch the Degree Audit System and again three years later when the university purchased its first student information system. He was also instrumental in implementing the Nebraska Student Information System (NeSIS) which, for the first time, included the state colleges.
“Gene has always been committed to any project he's involved in and has always provided invaluable IT support for all our students, staff and faculty on campus,” said Deanna Reynolds, director for ITS. “We can’t thank him enough for his many years of dedicated service to the University.”
