Microsoft IE vulnerability

Due to security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer , UNL Information Services is recommending all personnel temporarily cease use of Microsoft Internet Explorer and use Mozilla Firefox Extended Support Release ESR as a preferred browser.  Firefox ESR is a stable, enterprise browser certified by Nebraska CSN and SAP.  Microsoft has promised a security patch for Internet Explorer very soon to remedy the situation. (Friday, September 21 at approximately 12noon, CST)

Microsoft has an Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit to assist in protecting systems until a patch for Internet Explorer can be released, however, Information Services is not recommending it due to the restrictions it places on functionality.

Information Services will assist department IT staff to deploy the security patch to the computers they manage with the campus desktop management tool.   Home computers that are set to receive Windows updates will receive the patch automatically.
