Employer in Residence: West Gate Bank

Locally owned since we were established in 1968, West Gate Bank is a true local bank devoted to serving the needs of the Lincoln community. We carry this focus on the community not only into what we do, but how we do it. When you visit West Gate Bank, your lines will be short, the people will be friendly, and your service will be prompt. When you call us, a knowledgeable person will answer the phone; not a computer set on a loop. Here, we know the difference that truly makes a difference is in the details.

In 2007, West Gate Bank was honored with the Better Business Bureau's Integrity Award for our commitment to conducting business with integrity and our commitment to the Lincoln community. Carl Sjulin, owner of West Gate Bank, was also honored as the Lincoln Independent Business Association's Business Owner of the Year in 2008. In 2014, West Gate Bank was honored as the recipient for the Community Leader Award from the FHLBank of Topeka for outstanding community leadership and strong financial performance.

||What is your company culture like?||
Integrity. Strength. Trust. West Gate Bank is committed to providing a strong foundation to build relationships that empower our customers and employees to achieve their dreams.

From our mission statement to our goals to our community involvement, West Gate Bank is committed to our customers. West Gate Bank is large enough to serve all your banking needs, yet small enough to provide the outstanding personal service that only a locally owned community bank can deliver.

||Why should a student want to work for your company?||
(We asked college students who currently work here, and here are what two of them said.)

“Students should work at West Gate Bank because it gives an opportunity to use and strengthen your skills while finding areas to improve in too. It also gives hands on experience with customer service and how to handle different situations. Working at West Gate Bank provides a secure job and source of income in order to put more focus on my studies.”

“As a college student everyone can use a little extra money from employment, but what working at West Gate Bank offers is more than that. Working at West Gate Bank gives the chance to work in a structured organization, meet professionals on a daily basis and work with a steady schedule that helps get you ready for the real world. Most importantly, we all know people that are about to graduate and worried about the idea of working a full-time and a semi-serious job. The experience you get working at West Gate Bank prepares you before you have to dive all the way in.”

||What majors/interest areas does your company typically seek?||
We have students with majors of all types that work at West Gate Bank. If someone has a Business, Finance or Accounting major; working at West Gate Bank provides them with great experience for their future. As a community bank, we often train our employees and watch them grow within the organization. Often we have employees that work part-time through college, continue working after graduation until a full-time position comes up where they have the opportunity to advance their career at the same organization where they started.

||Do you currently have any open positions? If so, what are they?||
Currently we have Part-time Teller positions (onsite training provided) and a full-time Commercial Loan Officer position (experience required).
