"Factors That Impact the Success of Drinking Water Well Source Projects"

More than half the US community water systems reported a violation from 2017 to 2020. In 2019, of the 148,311 public water supply systems, 1 in 17 systems had a health violation, and 1 in 73 systems had an acute health violation. Are there social factors which are more common among these serious violators? What characteristics might suggest that a system is managed poorly compared to other similar systems? This research seeks to examines the relationship between income, education, race, and population movement and violations of water quality and reporting standards.

This presentation will discuss results from 23 surveys from potable water supply projects conducted through Engineers Without Borders USA. Each survey had five dependent variables and more than 90 independent variables. Researchers utilized Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) to evaluate whether the 90 independent variables had a significant impact on the outcome of the five dependent variables.
Statistically significant was analyzed at the 95% confidence level. The following independent variables were determined to be statistically significant in association with two dependent variables: How many houses are within 500 meters; meets community needs; multi-disciplinary project team; and good relationship with the community.
