Bicycle Safety Contest, June 13

There are two parts of the 4-H Bicycle Safety Contest. In the bicycle skills events, 4-H’ers maneuver through several designated courses to test their riding skills and safety.The 4-H Bicycle Safety Contest will be held Saturday, June 13, 9 a.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center, 444 Cherrycreek Road. “Fun with Healthy Food!” Workshop, July 10

A the "Fun with Healthy Food!" workshop, youth will make their breakfast, lunch, supper and more! Making healthy food choices can be fun and tasty! A “Fun with Healthy Food!” workshop will be held Friday, July 10, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center, 444 Cherrycreek Road. Workshop is different every year. $10 fee. Register by July 7 with payment.

Super Fair 4-H & FFA Entry Pass Hangtags

The Lancaster County Super Fair will be July 30–Aug. 8, 20154-H/FFA exhibitors can get free 4-H/FFA entry pass hangtags for their immediate families at the Extension office (available July 1–29). These entry passes allow one vehicle and its occupants to enter the fairgrounds each day Thursday, July 30–Monday, Aug. 3, 11 a.m. and park in designated areas. Continue reading…

 

Presentations Contest, July 18

 A 4-H "Illustrated Presentation" is a live presentation with a formal talk where youth will use visual aids (such as props, posters, computer-based visuals, handouts, video, etc.) This year’s Presentations Contest will be Saturday, July 18, 9 a.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center. Must preregister by July 13. Open to all 4-H’ers ages 8–18 (4-H age). New this year, 4-H FilmFest (Digital Video) replaces the Multimedia class.

Static Exhibit Check-In July 28, 4–8 p.m.

All non-animal exhibits at the Super Fair are called static exhibits.-H & FFA static exhibits do not preregister, but MUST be physically checked in during Static Exhibit Check-in on Tuesday, July 28 between 4–8 p.m. at the Lancaster Event Center, Lincoln Room. An adult — such as a club leader or parent(s) — should assist 4-H members in entering exhibits.

Interview Judging, July 29

Interview Judging is an opportunity for 4-H members to talk to judges about their static exhibits and share their trials and lessons they learned. 4-H’ers also learn what the judge looks for and how to improve skills. In Interview Judging, 4-H’ers have the opportunity to talk to judges about their fair static exhibits. Super Fair Interview judging will be Wednesday, July 29 starting at 9 a.m. in the Lincoln Room. Preregister for 5-minute time slots between July 6 and 24.

Live Poultry Events Canceled at Fairs

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has canceled all poultry events across Nebraska through Jan. 1, 2016. The ban includes all events where birds are co-mingled, including county and state fairs. This is an effort to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza.

The Plant Science Contests include: tree identification, grass-weed identification, and horticulture contest.Three Plant Science Contests will be held Wednesday, June 10, 10 a.m.–Noon at the Lancaster Extension Education Center. Premier Animal Science Events, June 29–30

The statewide Premier Animal Science Events includes a variety of livestock-related contests.The statewide Premier Animal Science Events will be held June 29–30 on UNL East Campus. Open to 4-H’ers ages 12 and up, PASE consists of a variety of different contests:
• livestock, meats and poultry judging
• livestock skill-a-thon
• livestock quiz bowl

Final Horse Level Testing Before Super Fair

The levels of advancement in the 4-H Horse Project are designed to serve as guides for instruction and evaluation each members progress. The correct handling of horses is emphasized from the beginning level to the most advanced level.Tuesday, June 30 will be the last date to test in order to ride in the 2015 Super Fair. The 4-H horsemanship level group testing will take place starting 5:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Event Center in Pavilion 4 – Amy Countryman Arena. Anyone wishing to test must sign up by June 23 by contacting Marty.

 

Super Fair Livestock Reminders

Market beef and breeding heifers check-in separately. Market beef are 10–11 a.m., breeding beef are 11 a.m.–12 noon on Thursday, July 30.• All registered breeding heifers must have current registration papers and tattoos presented at check-in. Livestock Judging Contest, Aug. 2

4-H/FFA members can try their hand at judging beef, sheep, swine and meat goats at the Livestock Judging Contest at Lancaster County Super Fair.A 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest will be held Sunday, Aug. 2, 12 noon–2 p.m. in Pavilion 1. Preregister by Thursday, July 30, 6 p.m. in the Livestock Office at the Super Fair. Come join the fun judging livestock and bring your parents! Classes shall consist of beef, sheep, swine and meat goat.

 

Youth Livestock Premium Auction Donations

State Fair 4-H & FFA Animal Entries Due Aug. 9

The 2015 State Fair will be Aug. 28–Sep. 7 at Fonner Park in Grand Island.4-H & FFA animal exhibitors ages 10–18 are eligible to participate at the Nebraska State Fair regardless of county fair placing.
