Aaron Mittelstet recently received a grant from the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to conduct a study in the Big Sandy Creek watershed.

"The main objective of the project is to help the NRCS improve water quality in the watershed by identifying the type and location of management practices that should be implemented," Mittelstet said.

He will be working in collaboration with the NRCS, Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Nebraska's Natural Resource Districts.

"Our goal is to help the NRCS and DEQ improve the water quality in the Big Sandy Creek as well as the Little and Big Blue Rivers," Mittelstet said.

He said this will be accomplished by assisting agricultural producers in reducing the sediment, nutrients, atrazine and E. coli entering the stream system.
