The world’s best athletes are gathered in Pyeongchang, South Korea this week as the Winter Olympics unfold on an international stage. The world’s best speed skaters spend years of hard work and dedication developing and perfecting their skills. Are their talents the result of genetic favor or developed in a special environment? A recently published research article on talent development by University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate student Carol Ott Schacht and Educational Psychology professor Ken Kiewra suggests their success was developed not born.
