Hudl Was Founded By UNL Grads

Hudl is Lincoln-based tech startup founded by UNL CSE graduates with a satellite office in Austin, Texas. The company uses technological resources to provide sports teams with secure and efficient means of sharing plays and developing strategies. With 44 employees, the company is made up of a tight-knit group of people who love what they do. Adam Parrish, who works for Hudl HR, gives an inside look of what its like to work for the company.

Bits & Bytes (BB): What makes your company stand out?

Adam Parrish (AP): We are one of only a handful of software firms that was born and raised in Lincoln. Over 75% of our staff are graduates of the University of Nebraska. We are proof that fun, exciting opportunities exist right here in town.

BB: What is the company culture like?

AP: I always joke with people that by wearing jeans you will be out-dressing our CEO, who often wears athletic shorts to work. We have a casual, comfortable atmosphere, free from the restraints of corporate America.

BB: What makes for a competitive candidate?

AP: We are always looking for candidates that believe what we believe. We hire candidates that fit our culture, and our culture is defined by our core values.

BB: What qualifications do successful applicants possess?

AP: Successful applicants must prove they have the drive to get work done. We work smart and we work hard. We expect the same tenacity from interns as we do from our full-time staff, because our goal is to convert every successful intern into a full-time hire.

BB: What is the interview process like?

AP: Most of our first interviews occur at the Scooter’s Coffeehouse directly below our office. We use this comfortable atmosphere to get to know candidates, explain the position, and answer any questions they may have. Second interviews are a bit more technical, and are conducted in our office in order to give applicants an idea of our work environment.

BB: What sort of things can the intern expect to do?

AP: The great thing about interning with us is that you can make an immediate impact in our development cycle. New features and upgrades are immediately pushed to our coaches, and all interns are involved in developing these features.

BB: I was told by the department that Hudl was founded by UNL students. Can you tell me a bit more about that?

AP: Our three co-founders started Hudl in 2006 after graduating from UNL and the Raikes School (formerly JD Edwards). They set out to find and correct the pain points where coaches struggle the most. Our playground is where sports and technology meet.
