(OMA) Do you know how to help after disaster strikes? Getting training at the first University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Campus CERT Kick Off on Friday, Oct. 27 (noon, CPACS 132D) is a good way to learn.

Free food will be provided.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to the event to learn disaster preparedness and basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

Using the training, CERT members can assist in their neighborhoods or workplaces following a disaster event when professional responders are not immediately available.

Featured presenters at the Kick Off will include: Ryan Lowry, Citizen Corps Coordinator for the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency; Dave Points, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at UNO; and Paul Johnson and Whitney Shipley from Douglas County Emergency Management.

Anyone interested in attending the CERT Kick Off should RSVP to Emily Newman at emilynewman@unomaha.edu by Oct. 18.
