Bachelor's in applied science program cited by U.S. News & World Report

UNL’s online Bachelor of Science in Applied Science program landed on U.S. News & World Report’s College Rankings 2014 edition in the “Best Online Undergraduate Programs” category.

The January announcement has the Bachelor of Science in Applied Science ranked 74th, up from 135th in 2013.

Steven S. Waller, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, said, “We believe a bachelor’s degree should be accessible to everyone— regardless of their circumstance or location. The BSAS degree program is one way that we are extending our reach to students around the world.”

The rankings are based on factors such as graduation rates, indebtedness of new graduates, and academic and career support services offered to students.

According to Waller, “The BSAS online degree program provides working adults with much needed flexibility. The ranking recognizes the pride we feel in our efforts to provide personal attention to all our students, resident and online.”

The BSAS is considered a degree completion program intended for students who have some college coursework completed in the life science and agriscience fields but were not able to complete their degree while on campus. The students work with an advisor to determine which of their existing courses will transfer into the program and which new courses are the best fit with their career goals.

Three other online programs offered by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln were recognized in the U.S. News & World Report’s College Rankings 2014 edition in the “Best Online Programs” category.

The Graduate Education and Master of Business Administration programs rose significantly in the rankings and the Master of Engineering made its debut.

Also in January, Kiplinger’s Best Values in Public Colleges for 2014 is out. For the 10th year in a row UNL is ranked in the top 100.

These programs are among the more than 100 degree, certificate and endorsement online programs offered by the four campuses of the University of Nebraska system.
