The presentation editor will be the chief designer, responsible for Page 1A design, some special sections and the curation of available wire content, both from the Associated Press and our affiliated BH Media papers. This person should have at least two years of experience designing pages, with a particular emphasis on 1A and some supplementary print products. The ideal candidate should also have a working understanding of online news, as our design staff is responsible for ensuring our content appears on our website.
A summary of typical responsibilities includes:
-Leading the design desk as the principal paginator
-Being responsible for 1A layouts
-Coordinating with editors to determine placement of stories on a daily basis
-Working afternoons and evenings, including some weekends, which includes both pagination and uploading of stories
-Designing the other pages, such as opinion pages and special sections.
-Archiving photos and pages, as needed
Required Skills:
The candidate should have experience designing pages and meeting deadlines, in addition to some familiarity with operating a news website. Other needed skills include a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, strong news judgment regarding both local news and wire content and proficiency with AP style.
Required Experience:
The candidate should have at least one or two years of professional experience designing pages in a newsroom setting, though that can be waived with sufficient proof of skills.
