UNL's chapter of Amnesty International is hosting a spring banquet featuring keynote speaker Nebraska Sen. Brenda Council, 6:30 to 9 p.m., April 19 in the Nebraska Union.
The theme of the banquet is the abolition of the death penalty. Tickets, available in the Nebraska Union through April 19 and at the door, are $15 general admission and $10 for students and low-income.
Council, a state senator representing District 11, has been a champion of death penalty abolition in the Nebraska Legislature. Along with her talk, Council will accept questions from the audience. Ari Kohen, associate professor and director of UNL's Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs program, will moderate the discussion.
The banquet will also include a display by Scott Langley, an art auction and dinner from Vincenzo's.

All proceeds from ticket sales and the art auction will be used to support the work of Amnesty International in fighting the death penalty, and other human rights abuses worldwide.
