The University of Nebraska State Museum's November Sunday with a Scientist program for children and families will explore Nebraska throughout time and how scientists understand the world around them. The event is 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Morrill Hall, 645 N. 14th St.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate students, directed by assistant professor of science education Krista Adams, will run hands-on stations to help children learn about ecosystems and the impacts of weather throughout Nebraska's history. Visitors will learn about fossils and the impact of environmental changes, and investigate plant and animal survival through adaptation.

"Through this collaboration, the museum provides an energizing environment where these future teachers can engage with the community and the K-6 children they are set to teach," Adams said. “My teacher candidates are not only excited for this afternoon event, but also are looking forward to creating a positive space for children to observe and think as scientists."

Sunday with a Scientist is a presentation series that highlights the work of scientists, while educating children and families on a variety of topics related to science and natural history. Presenters share scientific information in a fun, informal way through demonstrations, activities or by conducting science on site. Sunday with a Scientist typically takes place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month.
