First Aid, CPR + AED and other safety classes offered by Campus Rec

Campus Recreation offers several safety classes this fall, including CPR, AED + First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor/Review certification courses.

CPR, AED + FIRST AID TRAINING
The American Red Cross CPR, AED + First Aid program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. Completed training provides a two-year American Red Cross certification often required for both professional and service jobs. Participants can also earn academic credit for this course by enrolling in FITN160 on MyRed. Non-credit course fees are $60 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members and $75 for non-members. These classes are offered during the following dates:
• Sept. 5 | 4:30-7:30 p.m.
• Oct. 3 | 4:30-7:30 p.m.
• Oct. 25 | 4:30-7:30 p.m.

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION
The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Registration deadline is Oct. 25. Participants must be 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Particpants must also:
• Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate or an equivalent certificate from another organization.
• Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Fri., Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in MLH pool
• Successfully complete all the online blended learning components prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for Fri., Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.

The weekend certification course runs Nov. 10-12. Course hours are 7-10 p.m. on Fri. and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sat. and Sun. Registration fees are $290 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members, $315 for non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning component). LIFEGUARDING REVIEW CERTIFICATION
The purpose of the Lifeguarding Review course is to give currently certified lifeguards the opportunity re-certify by reviewing the course content within a formal course setting. This course is offered as a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where participants will practice skills and demonstrate competency.

Registration deadline is Nov. 8. Participants must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course. Participants must also:
• Possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certificate
• Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation: Mon., Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in MLH pool
• Complete the online blended learning prior to the first on-site skills session scheduled for Dec. 2 at 9 a.m.

The one-day re-certification course is held 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sat, Dec. 2. Registration fees are $125 for UNL students and Campus Recreation members, $175 for non-members (plus a $35 non-refundable fee to the American Red Cross for the online learning component). Register here: http://go.unl.edu/lg
