Earlier this month, students in Victoria Alapo's weather and climate class visited the KETV news studio. Alapo, a UNL geography doctoral student, teaches the class at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.

KETV's chief meteorologist Bill Randby spoke with students about how he predicts the weather.

The field trip provided students with hands-on knowledge and experience about meteorology in action. The students were exposed to various climactic computer models and saw how their classroom studies can be translated into real world scenarios.

Since the trip, Alapo's students have said that every time they watch TV weather reports, they understand it better and have a more solid grasp of the processes that create and lead up to a weather forecast.
