The 2016 Water for Food Global Conference photography contest ends April 11.
The 2016 Water for Food Global Conference photography contest ends April 11.

Time is running out to enter the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute at the University of Nebraska’s first photography contest. Photographers of all skill levels age 18 or older are encouraged to participate by submitting photos that depict what "water for food" looks like in today's world. All photos must be received through the institute’s website by 11:59 p.m. CDT April 11.

Participants will be eligible to win several prizes and have their photos displayed among a global audience, both online and during a special exhibit at the institute’s 2016 Water for Food Global Conference April 24 to 26 at Nebraska Innovation Campus, 2021 Transformation Dr., in Lincoln.

WFI is committed to addressing the global challenge of achieving food security with less stress on water resources through improved water management in agricultural and food systems. The photography contest is intended to draw attention to diverse perspectives of what "water for food" means around the globe. Examples include a droplet of rain on an ear of corn, a massive earthen dam or rice farmers in Bangladesh. All valid entries will appear on WFI’s website and social media sites and will be properly credited.

The photographs will be judged by a panel of professional photographers based on originality, technical excellence, composition, impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to water for food, with the exception of the Viewers’ Choice award, which will be determined by the public through Facebook voting.

The panel will evaluate the entries and notify the following three winners by April 19:
- First prize, $100 cash prize
- Runner-up, $75 cash prize
- Second runner-up, $50 cash prize

There also will be a Viewers’ Choice winner, which will be awarded based on the number of “likes” received through WFI’s Facebook page from April 12 to April 25, 11:59 p.m. The Viewer’s Choice winner will be announced April 26, the final day of the conference.

All four winners will be given complimentary registration to attend the 2016 Water for Food Global Conference and their photographs will be enlarged, mounted and framed for a special display at Nebraska Innovation Campus during the event. Each winner will receive a gift certificate from Rockbrook Camera.
