The Nebraska State Climate Office and the National Drought Mitigation Center have both recently released their newsletters, a good resource for planners across the state and country.

The state climate office’s monthly summary looks back at April’s weather, where a late-season snow storm was a blip in an otherwise warm month, the eighth warmest on record since 1895. Read more here.

DroughtScape, the drought center’s quarterly newsletter, looked back on its busy beginning of the year. Included in their activities were:

  • A transfer of the Composite Drought Index technology, a version of the U.S. Drought Monitor for the region, to Tunisia for the Middle East and North Africa project. Within a month of its delivery, Tunisia released its first drought map.
  • The drought center helped Caribbean Island nations reduce their vulnerability.
  • A newly released book chapter takes on drought and public health.
  • A survey finds access drought information leads to better decisions.
